ROL: Return on Load FAQ

What is ROL?

ROL (Return on Load) is a trucking load calculator that helps owner-operators and drivers calculate the true profitability of a load. Unlike simple rate-per-mile calculators, ROL factors in fuel costs, deadhead miles, and operating expenses to show you what you'll actually make.

How do I calculate a load?

Enter the load details: pickup location, delivery location, loaded miles, deadhead miles, and the rate. ROL will calculate your net profit, profit per mile, and compare it to your minimum acceptable rate. You can save loads to compare them later.

How do I set up my operating costs?

Go to Settings in the app and enter your truck's MPG, current diesel price, and your fixed costs (insurance, truck payment, etc.). ROL uses these to calculate your true cost per mile and profit on each load.

What's the difference between rate per mile and profit per mile?

Rate per mile is just the load rate divided by loaded miles. Profit per mile is what you actually keep after fuel and operating costs on ALL miles (including deadhead). A $3/mile load with 200 deadhead miles might only net you $1.50/mile in real profit.

Does ROL work offline?

Yes! All calculations happen on your device. You don't need cell service or WiFi to use ROL. Your saved loads and settings are stored locally on your phone.

How do I update fuel prices?

Go to Settings and update the diesel price. You can change this anytime. Some drivers update it weekly based on their regular fuel stops.

Can I compare multiple loads?

Yes! Save loads you're considering and view them side-by-side in the Saved Loads section. This helps you pick the most profitable option when you have multiple loads to choose from.

Is my data backed up?

Currently, ROL stores all data locally on your device. If you delete the app, your saved loads will be deleted. We're working on optional cloud sync for a future update.

How do I delete my data?

Go to Settings > Clear All Data to delete all saved loads and reset the app. You can also delete individual saved loads by swiping left on them.

What iOS version is required?

ROL requires iOS 15.0 or later. It works on iPhone and iPad.

Is ROL free?

ROL is free to download and use. We may add premium features in the future, but the core calculator will always be free.

How do I report a bug?
